Hello, My Name Is....

One of the most wonderful gifts God has given us on this earth is the gift of music.  It spans time and culture, and speaks to the heart in ways words alone cannot.

I love music - lots of different kinds, but especially Jesus music.  Right now, "Hello, My Name Is" by Matthew West is one of my favorites.  When I saw the "Hello, I'm Awesome" stamp by Unity Stamp Co., this song immediately came to mind.  I had to do a little stamp surgery to pull it off, but it worked.

(Nobody wants a card that says I'm awesome anyway. I mean, really. So I used my X-Acto knife to cut that little part out of the stamp.)

I try to resist the temptation to buy every new crafty supply that comes along, and instead focus on the basics that I can stretch to do as much as possible.  Good inks are one of those basics.  I don't have a great supply of ink colors, so cubes like these Hero Arts Shadow Inks fill the bill perfectly - 4 coordinating shades at a reasonable price.  Though I'm not usually an orange fan, this one is fantastic - bright and cheery without being over the top.  The name really suits the color...think of a bottle of orange Crush.  :)

 I stamped a plaid background strip behind the name tag, and the colors are nice and muted on the kraft.  To fit the line from Matthew West's song on the tag, I tried my handwriting (ick) and alphabet stamps (didn't have the right size or font) so I moved on to the computer.  In Word I made a template with a few fonts that gave me the look I was going for.  I easily stamped around the words and then fussy cut the whole name tag out. 

(Just a side note - I love fonts.  Lots of fonts.  And I'd love to learn to write in different styles, especially modern calligraphy.  Too bad my hands won't cooperate with my brain. Yet.)

So I guess this project was a merging of music and paper.  I can't look at it without singing inside...and out loud. :)

This card and more like it will be donated to sell at a local fundraiser this weekend for Global Partners.  This is the second year they've held a Christmas Fair to raise money for orphans.  I can't wait to see what God will do with some Christmas trees, crafts, and family activities to provide for the needy half the world away.  Global Partners has an online store as well....check it out!
